Buying your freehold

If you own a long-leasehold property, you could have the right to buy the freehold (a process known as ‘enfranchisement’). That can also apply to groups of owners in a block where they all hold long-leasehold flats.

Even though there are rights involved, it’s not a simple or inevitable process. We advise on:

  • Working out if you’re eligible
  • Instructing valuers and surveyors
  • Financing
  • Participation agreements
  • Statutory notices
  • Tribunal attendance
  • After enfranchisement, creating new long leases for applicable flats.

We also advise freeholders, intermediate landlords, RTM companies and management companies on their rights and responsibilities throughout.
