Polly Atkins

Senior Associate

Polly provides advice on all aspects of family law, particularly issues that arise from relationship breakdowns, including divorce, financial settlements, nuptial agreements, injunctive proceedings, and matters involving children. She also advises on dispute resolution with a primary focus on relationship generated trust and inheritance act disputes.

Polly specialises in high-net-worth family cases many of which involve complex international, business, or financial elements. With her extensive experience, Polly has developed a deep understanding of the complexities, practicalities and strategic considerations involved in these cases. She is financially astute, and navigates her way around complex financial arrangements with ease. Polly is particularly experienced at understanding remuneration structures involving deferred compensation (such as RSUs) and has advised clients on both sides about how best to protect against, and make a claim for these assets which straddle the income/capital divide.

Polly is an excellent strategist who is able to help clients navigate their way through their case to achieve the best possible outcome, and tailors the approach taken to meet the client’s needs and objectives. Her tenacity and creativity mean that she is able to identify solutions that are not immediately obvious. You can be confident that she will have considered every option, always bearing in mind risk and proportionality when advising clients as to which course of action to take.

She is also deeply empathetic, and adopts a very “human” approach to these personal and sensitive issues. Clients find her to be a reassuring and knowledgeable lawyer who can be relied upon. Polly’s cases often involve issues of domestic abuse and she also sits on Resolution’s Economic Abuse Working Party and is dedicated to, and actively involved in, making the legal system safer and fairer for victim-survivors and their children. She has particular expertise in cases involving children with specific needs, including ASD and ADHD.

Polly is a member of Resolution, an organisation of family lawyers dedicated to the constructive resolution of family disputes and she is also a committee member of the European Circuit, an organisation of lawyers who specialise in cross-border litigation.

Polly has volunteered with Temple Legal Clinic since 2020.

After studying Religion, Philosophy and Ethics at Kings, Polly completed her GDL and LPC before working for two years as a paralegal. Polly joined Hunters as a trainee solicitor in October 2018, qualified in October 2020 and was made Senior Associate in 2024.
