Partner
James qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and became a Partner of Vernor-Miles & Noble in 2003.
He joined Hunters as a Partner following the merger of the two firms in April 2011, and is now head of the Property department.
James specialises in Property and Landed Estates work and also has extensive experience in acting for Charity Trustees and Commercial Property clients, whom he advises regularly in connection with the sale, lease, purchase and development of land. He advises a number of charities on matters other than property.
James’ clients include professionals, high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, property investors, agricultural land owners and landed estates, private and off-shore trustees, charities, residential property management companies, and professional practices; he is also very pleased to take regular instructions from private home buyers and sellers.
James is recognised in the Chambers and Partners High Net Worth (2023) directory as ‘smart and thoughtful, with a relaxed but business-like manner‘. He is also a recommended lawyer in the Legal 500 (2024), where our residential property department is noted as a ‘firm to watch’.

“Just sold our house and James Vernor-Miles was brilliant. Efficient and knowledgeable. No messing around. A text book transaction by a 'go to' lawyer.”
“As a first time buyer I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and efficient solicitor to represent me. James was beyond helpful and responsive and was always happy to respond to my (necessary and sometimes unnecessary) emails. I would use Hunters again in a heartbeat.”
“We worked with Hunters to both sell our house and buy a flat in central London. James was absolutely terrific - he dealt with everything for us, made sure we fully understood the pros and cons of every decision which we needed to take, and made us feel extremely well looked after. We will certainly continue to rely on Hunters for any legal needs we might have.”
