The Hunters Survival Guide

The Hunters Survival Guide

On 14th July, Hunters hosted its third annual Survival Guide: Forward thinking for the next generation. The day focused on up and coming millennials who are ambitious about their career, but may not know where to start when putting their personal affairs in order.

There are aspects of adulthood which can be daunting as well as exciting: buying a home, mortgages, pensions, wills, tax and employment contracts to name a few. The purpose of the day was to provide basic information about these and other topics, to demystify them, to demonstrate when it might be sensible to seek some advice and how to go about doing that.

The presenters were drawn mainly from the firm, but we also had a number of excellent guest speakers.

Jeremy McGivern from Mercury Homesearch started the day by giving his top tips on what to avoid in looking for property, and how to find property that you not only love, but might increase in value. Ben Gurluk and James Vernor-Miles from the Hunters Property Department followed this with giving a crash course on the legal side of property.

After the property market, our guests were initiated into the ways of money, with an introduction to tax, how to save and invest, and an overview of mortgages from Hunters’ very own Wilfred Vernor-Miles, with Freddie Lower and Clare Julian of Casanove Capital and Geoff Garret of Charles Cameron Associates.

The British summer was kind enough for us to hold lunch in the lawns of Lincoln’s Inn before returning to presentations by Molly Wills, Vanessa Friend, Graeme Fraser and Stephen Morrall from Hunters, discussing wills and pre-nups cohabitation and employment contracts.

Hunters was pleased to welcome guest speakers Charlotte Harris from Coconut Collaborative, and Thea Alexander from Young Foodies who gave us the secrets on ‘How to Start a Start-up’ and even treated us to a few of their delicious products. To end the day, Charlie Bain and Milly Putt from Digitalis taught us about keeping safe online and online reputation management with employment prospects in mind.

We rounded up with questions and answers over drinks in Lincoln’s Inn. Hunters was delighted to host this event, and we thank all of our lovely guests and speakers for joining us.
