Hunters hosted the Withdrawal and The Trade Marks Act 1994 webinar

Webinar: Withdrawal and The Trade Marks Act 1994

On Monday 17 May, Hunters hosted a webinar, in association with The Bar Association for Commerce, Finance and Industry (BACFI) and the Society of English and American Lawyers (SEAL), on the impact of Brexit on The Trade Marks Act and Brand Protection in the UK.

Brexit has had far-reaching implications for IP rights in the UK and, in particular, on brand protection.  With the Trade and Co-operation Agreement between the EU and the UK now in place, and the English courts starting to grapple with IP protection in a post-Brexit world, our panel of experts talked about the most important trade mark implications for brand owners, how the courts are starting to shape the new environment, and how two key industry sectors deal with the day-to-day challenges of brand protection and portfolio management.

Hunters partner Gregor Kleinknecht and specialist IP barrister Mark Engelman discussed the key legal changes and developments, whilst Chris Hayes, legal counsel at GW Pharmaceuticals, and Simon Carter, owner of fashion business Simon Carter Ltd, gave their insights into the practical challenges of managing a trade mark portfolio since the end of the Transition period.
