Clare Brennan joined Hunters in 2024 as a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial department, following our merger with Peachey & Co LLP.
Recognised for her pragmatic and commercial advice, Clare’s experience spans a number of industry sectors.
She advises on a wide range of commercial disputes, often involving multi-jurisdictional and multi-party claims. Her expertise includes breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and shareholder disputes, across all fora in England and Wales, from employment tribunals to the Court of Appeal.
She also advises on both contentious and non-contentious employment law, offering guidance to employers and senior executives on redundancy, TUPE, re-organisation, contractual matters, and employee regulatory issues. Clare is also experienced in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), project finance, and related transactions.
Prior to joining Hunters, Clare had worked at Peachey & Co since 1989 and became a partner in 2006. Clare qualified as a solicitor in 2002 after earning her LLB from the University of London in 1999.
Notable matters:
- Acting for the claimant in a €100m multi-jurisdiction part-19 derivative fraud claim – Durnont Enterprises Ltd v Fazita Investment Ltd [2023] EWHC 1294 (Ch).
- Acted in commercial court proceedings concerning the sale of crude oil arising from a joint venture with the Government of Turkmenistan, including discharging a freezing order (and resisting a subsequent appeal) – United Petroleum Trading Switzerland SA v Mitro International Ltd [2019] EWHC 3066 (KB).
- Acted for the successful appellant in a usual bias appeal where the Employment Appeal Tribunal overturned the Employment Tribunal Judge’s findings (on disability) because of apparent bias – Menzies Distribution Limited v Mendes UKEAT 0497 13 (2014).
