Amy’s practice spans both international and domestic family law, including child abduction, wardship, jurisdictional disputes, international relocation of children, registration and enforcement of foreign orders, stranded spouses, forced marriage and FGM. She regularly acts for parents and relatives in domestic disputes about child arrangements, including same-sex parenting disputes, and she is known for being “impressively adept” at handling child arrangements for high-profile individuals. Amy is a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Child Abduction and Children Law, and a Resolution trained mediator.
Recognised in the directories for her expertise in cross-border adoption cases, surrogacy and fertility law, Amy has experience in co-parenting arrangements, sperm and egg donation, egg donation, assisted reproduction, family formation, and international and domestic surrogacy arrangements. She was invited to meet with the Law Commission to provide recommendations on the reform of surrogacy law.
Praised for being dynamic and “creative in finding solutions for difficult problems”, Amy has a passionate and unwavering dedication to fighting difficult cases and a proven ability to take on and win complex, novel cases, including in the Supreme Court. She has acted in many of the leading cases in the appellate courts in the field of international children law.
Amy has carved out a niche advising and litigating complex proceedings on behalf of overseas public authorities concerning cross-border disputes and the protection of children and vulnerable adults living in this jurisdiction under orders of foreign courts. She is recognised as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in the Legal 500 for her work in Court of Protection matters.
Amy is co-editor of the International Family Law Journal, a quarterly publication published by LexisNexis covering family law as it affects families and individuals across Europe and the rest of the world. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and has provided training at the Resolution National Conference, the Bloomsbury Law: Children Law Conference, the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA), and to several fertility clinics across London.
Amy is a member of the International Family Law Committee, the Family Procedure Rule Committee International Family Working Group, the Resolution International Committee, a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, Chair of the Resolution International Mediation Working Party and a member of the Child Abduction Lawyers Association (CALA). Her work on Brexit saw her play a pivotal role in the preparation of evidence to the Justice Select Committee on the implications of Brexit for the family justice system; drawing together recommendations from lead specialist practitioner groups in England and Wales, and drafting guidance on the implications of Brexit on practice and procedure in Family Law.
