Mary Elliott

Partner

Mary read Law at University College London before training with May May & Merrimans.  She qualified as a solicitor in 1990, becoming a partner in 1995 and joining Hunters on the merger of the two firms in 2015.

Mary has over 30 years’ experience in private client practice. She has extensive experience in all aspects of UK private client work, in particular advising individuals, families and trustees on tax and succession planning, including wills and complex trust and corporate structures, and the use of these structures to achieve the clients’ overriding objectives. She has acted in Variation of Trusts Act 1958 applications, both for claimant and defendants, including a multi-trust case involving Court of Protection applications.

Mary is a trustee of many of the family trusts for which she acts and has a deep and long-standing knowledge of many of her client families and their trusts, having been involved with a number of them since the start of her career.   She makes it a priority to understand as much about the individuals and families she acts for as possible, and sees the long-term relationship (both with clients and other professionals) as the bedrock of private client practice.

Mary also acts as a trustee of and advises in relation to grant-making charities.
