Partner

Mark is a trusted advisor to HNW and UHNW individuals and families. Mark’s unique practice is grounded in his wide range of expertise, facilitating a holistic approach to his clients’ legal needs.

Over his long career Mark has worked extensively with families of very substantial means, advising them on all of their legal needs, often coordinating advisors in several jurisdictions and across several disciplines.

Mark works closely with trustees, including to support them in their strategic and commercial deliberations. Mark is familiar with a variety of governance structures including trusts (onshore and offshore), private trust company structures and family offices. Working for private client families and creating bespoke legal solutions lies at the heart of his practice. Mark has helped mediate many intra-family disputes finding confidential and effective solutions.

Mark is also an established family lawyer advising clients on the range of legal issues arising on relationship inception and breakdown. Mark is equally adept in advising families on wealth protection, governance and reputational management, and he is instructed by his longstanding clients on commercial, employment and personal matters. Mark also has a particular interest in art law.

Mark’s family law practice benefits from his extensive experience in HNW financial remedy claims, with particular expertise in cases involving offshore trusts and family arrangements. Mark is regularly instructed to prepare nuptial agreements and has acted in cases protecting hundreds of millions of pounds. Mark’s practice also covers challenging child arrangement cases, in particular applications to relocate children abroad, and cases concerning domestic abuse, with a particular interest in cases relating to coercive and controlling behaviour.

Mark emphasises the importance of strategic planning and is always committed to identifying the best solution for a client, either through careful negotiation or in some cases bold litigation.

Originally from South Africa, Mark is qualified in both South Africa and England and Wales, and has also practised in Singapore; many of his clients are based abroad. Mark joined Hunters as a partner in 2021 from boutique Mayfair firm Charles Mia, where he had practised since 2004. Mark is a member of Resolution. His interests are sailing, photography, travel and wildlife and he especially enjoys watching the Springboks be victorious at Twickenham.
