In Memoriam

In Memoriam

It is with enormous sadness that we must report our partner Jonathan Godwin-Austen passed away on Christmas Day.

He joined the firm as a partner in 1997, and since then has been an essential part of the firm’s growth and development, particularly in the years in which he led the Private Client team between 2012 and 2017.

Jonathan loved the law, particularly the area of trusts and tax in which he specialised and in which he had a superb working knowledge. However, what made him a great lawyer was the steely way in which he protected, advanced and guided the interests of his clients and their families, many of whom became great personal friends.

Jonathan was a man of huge courage, never more vividly displayed than in the stoicism and humour with which, over the past 10 years, he played the cards that Fate dealt him, to include his illness and other vicissitudes of life. It had become commonplace for us to expect him to rebound from every reverse, and this made the news of his death all the more of a shock to us at Hunters.

All our thoughts go to his wife Francesca, his children Harry, Annie and George, and his sister Alice.
