Yesterday, 19 June 2019, the Art and Cultural Property team at Hunters were delighted to join forces with Roseberys Auctioneers to host the first of a seminar series for fine art auctioneers.
Hetty Gleave, Gregor Kleinknecht, Molly Wills and Petra Warrington discussed hot topics for the art trade with a full house made up of auctioneers and valuers from up and down the country. We were joined by Hugo Johnsen of Castleacre Insurance, a specialist insurance broker in the arts sector. The seminar took place on the same day as the biennial dinner of the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, which many of our guests were attending afterwards.
A number of topical legal issues were addressed including the impact on the art trade of the upcoming implementation of the 5th Anti-Money Laundering Directive, best practice in relation to probate and insurance valuations, the complexities of copyright and artist’s moral rights and the advantages of resolving disputes through mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
The seminar provoked a lively discussion and many interesting and thought-provoking observations were made by our guests. Our thanks to everyone who attended and special thanks to Vicki Wonfor and the team at Roseberys for their partnership and valuable contributions to making the day a success.
