Yesterday, 19 June 2019, the Art and Cultural Property team at Hunters were delighted to join forces with Roseberys Auctioneers to host the first of a seminar series for fine art auctioneers.

Hetty Gleave, Gregor Kleinknecht, Molly Wills and Petra Warrington discussed hot topics for the art trade with a full house made up of auctioneers and valuers from up and down the country. We were joined by Hugo Johnsen of Castleacre Insurance, a specialist insurance broker in the arts sector. The seminar took place on the same day as the biennial dinner of the Society of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, which many of our guests were attending afterwards.

A number of topical legal issues were addressed including the impact on the art trade of the upcoming implementation of the 5th Anti-Money Laundering Directive, best practice in relation to probate and insurance valuations, the complexities of copyright and artist’s moral rights and the advantages of resolving disputes through mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

The seminar provoked a lively discussion and many interesting and thought-provoking observations were made by our guests. Our thanks to everyone who attended and special thanks to Vicki Wonfor and the team at Roseberys for their partnership and valuable contributions to making the day a success.

If you would like to know more about any of the topics that were covered, please contact a member of our Art and Cultural Property team.

WARNING: Website falsely claiming to be Hunters Law

4 March 2021

The website 'hunterslawllp.com' is operating, falsely claiming to be Hunters Law. This website has been created to mirror the genuine site, although contact details including telephone number and email addresses have been changed, and the SRA verification badge does not work.

We have also been made aware of a series of faxes circulating, purporting to come from ‘barrister’ Dominik Opalinski, advising of an unclaimed inheritance of $16.95M, which feature the same website address. Dominik is a genuine partner of the firm, but is not a barrister.

We have reported this to the SRA, and contacted the website domain hosts to request its urgent removal. If you receive correspondence of a similar nature to that described, please contact us directly by reliable and established means.
